Is there anything worse than a cold, rainy day in the city? At least when it’s cold and snowy it tends to look magical outside, but this last week had included more cold and rainy days than I would want in a year. It can be hard to motivate yourself to do anything when the weather gets like this, but if you do want to venture out of the house, here are some great indoor activities in the city!
Cheeky Monkey & Jillian’s Lucky Strike
Located in the Fenway, these two sister spots have drinks, bowling, arcade games and event ping pong tables. These are two great spots to spend an afternoon getting lost with your inner child. If you want to grab a bite, the fried chicken bao at Cheeky is not to be missed.
Station KTV & Chinatown Eats
I recently found out there are quite a few karaoke bars with private rooms in the city. If you have a group of friends, this is a fun activity to belt out your favorite songs out of tune with little judgement. Booze is available as well to loosen up those vocal cords. After, you can head across the street to Shojo or Double Chin, both amazing Asian fusion restaurants that constantly appear on every foodie Instagram I follow.
Improv Asylum & North End
Is there anything better than a good laugh and a bowl of pasta? The Improv Asylum is my favorite place to go in the city for comedy shows. They run shows all day long at varying price ranges, so there’s a show for everyone After you’ll come out in the heart of the North End and have your pick of any amazing Italian dish you want. End the night with a pastry at your favorite cannoli shop.
Breweries
If you’re into beer, Boston has no shortage of breweries in every corner of the city. Most do tours as well. If you want the free tour, check out Sam Adam’s in JP. If you want to pay for a great tour and even better pretzels, try Harpoon in Seaport. Trillium just opened a new beer hall and restaurant in Fort Point that is sure to be a hit. Just outside of the city you can find Dorchester Brewing, Lamplighter, Aeronaut, or Night Shift (just to name a very few).
Museums
There are so many great museum in the city for every age. The Children’s Museum, Aquarium, and Science Museum are great for kids; MFA, Isabella Stuart Gardener and ICA great for art lovers; and MIT Museum and Harvard Museum of Natural History great for people who love discoveries. One final spot that I love that’s not technically a museum but rich in history and art; the Boston Public Library, open to the public for free.
Despite the fact that the weather may be gray, there’s no shortage of great ways to spend your day.
